BACKGROUND AND METHODOLOGY TO THE ALIXPARTNERS OCTOBER 2024 CONSUMER TRAVEL SURVEY
SURVEY METHODOLOGY
BACKGROUND TO THE SURVEY
• AlixPartners has conducted an annual consumer trend survey
for last 3 years.
• The objective is to understand how consumers are prioritising
their spending in the current environment, and how their
spending priorities are shifting over time.
• The survey intends to explore consumer behaviour in the past
year and anticipate consumer actions for the coming year
across economic, operator and sales channel preference and
sustainability decisions
• The findings aim to provide valuable insights for companies in
the travel sector as they evaluate what happened this year and
plan for 2025.
Better understand consumer's intentions for travel across:
Travel spend in 2024 vs. 2023
Travel intentions for 2025 vs. 2024
How people intend to reduce their spend in travel, for those indicating they
will spend less next year
Attitudes and preferences for technology and sales channels
Attitudes to sustainable travel
To compare the overall responses to a question, we have often calculated and
shown the "net score". The net score is the difference between the number of
positive responses and negative responses (responses where a respondent says
their action will be unchanged - like "spending the same as last year" - are not
included in the calculation). Where more consumers were positive (e.g. will spend
"more") than negative (e.g. will spend "less"), the net score will be "+" and is shown
in a green circle. Where more consumers are negative than positive, the net score
will be "-" and is shown in a red circle
